While the farm is not currently certified organic, ShadowBrook does not use GMO-seed, chemical fertilizer pesticides, or herbicides not approved for use in organic standards. The farm also includes dairy goats that provide milk for cheese production and compostable material as a rich by-product. ShadowBrook Farm also raises hogs and laying hens, supplementing their feed with whey (a by-product from the cheese-making process).Įach year, ShadowBrook Farm grows cut-flowers and plant cover crops on about one-third of the vegetable ground. In 2006, they started milking goats and making their award-winning goat cheese. Since 1996, the ShadowBrook team has sold vegetables at the Shadowbrook Country Market, and at farmers’ markets, retail stores, and restaurants in Lincoln and Omaha. A 34-acre diversified farming operation, ShadowBrook Farm is committed to sustainable farming practices and being a good steward to the land. ShadowBrook Farm and Dutchgirl Creamery is a CSA family farm and creamery in Lincoln. Michelle and Mark Brannen own and operate Benson Bounty LLC, a family farm located on 1.5 acres of land in the Benson neighborhood of Omaha. They also support the community via educational programs, mentorship, advocacy, and their initiative of Operation Feeding Families, a partnership with Open Door Mission to minister to the homeless in the Omaha area by providing healthy food. Ed’s father and grandfather sold produce at the original Old City Market in Omaha.

Ed’s family has been “truck farming” (this is what they actually call someone who grows produce for a living) since before he was born. Some of our most popular crops are potatoes, green beans, and onions. We are Ed and Donna Welchert, and we’ve been providing fresh, locally-grown produce through the Omaha Farmers Market since its inception in 1994. We're obsessed with making as many delicious vegetables available to you, as soon as they're picked. If you want to get your hands on some of the fruits of our labor, they can be found at farmer's markets, at local businesses, and through our CSA. They are good for our employees, our land, and of course, our amazing customers. The farm was granted certified organic status in 2015 and while we aren't currently certified, we are committed to using organic practices. But for the past eleven years, our family has worked to transition a portion of the farm to grow vegetables and fruit using organic methods. Corn, soybeans, cattle, chickens, hogs, and hay have all been a part of the farm's history. Grandma and Grandpa moved to this farm in 1941, and since then we've been growing: the farm, the family, and the food.
